You can become involved in our Home and make an impact in the lives of our vulnerable children. St. Monica’s is always seeking to build relationships with businesses, organisations, and individuals who want to help make a brighter future for the generations to come.
For a non-profit children's home as large as ours to function effectively, a combination of commitment, time, dedication and financial resources makes a long-term difference in the lives of our vulnerable children and the Home.
Funding Partnerships
The B-BBEE legislation is one way that the government incentivises companies to give back to the community. St. Monica’s aims to establish funding partnerships with various businesses and companies through their Socio-Economic Development or Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives.
St. Monica’s is a Non-Profit, Level 1 B-BBEE Public Benefit Organisation which allows companies to earn 5 points on their B-BBEEE Scorecard by contributing 1% of their NPAT. This makes it an appealing opportunity for companies to donate and contribute towards our Home.
As a registered Non-Profit Organisation and approved Public Benefit Organisation, we are able to provide donors with a Section 18A Certificate, which allows donors to benefit by deducting their contribution to our organisation from their taxes, in accordance with SARS regulations.

Our Home is the one of the largest Children’s Homes in the Durban South region. Catering to the needs of our 84 children is no easy task as we endeavour to ensure all of their physical, educational, social, recreational needs are met. The upkeep of our extensive premises requires ongoing maintenance. We therefore require assistance towards the maintenance, refurbishment, and minor renovations. Contributions include the purchasing/repairs of appliances, furniture, etc., and other equipment and items towards the upgrade and upkeep our Home. This includes providing maintenance services such as fixing built in cupboard doors in the children’s cottages, preparing the walls for painting, plumbing, electrical services, pool cleaning services, etc.
Volunteer
We welcome individuals, organisations and companies to volunteer at our Home in the following areas:
- Assisting with homework
- Tutoring children experiencing difficulty in certain subjects
- Life skills programmes
- Mentorship programmes
- Creativity programmes

host a child
We are in dire need of suitable host families to care for our children over a week-end or holiday which may result in a long-term placement.
Our children are placed with us for various reasons viz: victims of abuse, neglect and/or orphaned. Although some of our children have extended families to visit and show them love and kindness, there are several children who have nowhere to go.
The host families are required to meet certain criteria, like give off their time, care and support to a child. You will be able to visit the child and take them on outings as well as have them stay over during the weekends and school holidays if your screening is successful.

By sponsoring a child, you are giving them the opportunity to enjoy a brighter future. You are in a position to support any Child during their stay at our Home. You can provide support through a monthly contribution of your choice that will contribute towards a child’s needs, from the basic necessities to additional healthcare or therapeutic needs, depending on the contribution.
